Regarding the ship power supply,3 phase AC power is preferred over DC as it gives more power for the same size.3 phases is preferred over single phase as it output more power and in the case of failure of one phase, the other 2 phases can still work properly.

When the ship docks, the generator on board will stop generating electricity,and then the shore power would be used to supply the electricity to the ship.
